Geopolitics, Grand Strategy and Defence: analytical subsidies to the transformation of the Land Force
Abstract
he research in progress departs from a set of questions: “How is the Grand Strategy of Brazil elaborated and implemented in order to guarantee National Defence?”; “What are its main actors?” and "What are the implications of the Grand Strategy for the transformation of the Land Force, in the search for the required, present and future capabilities?". It is based on the understanding that Brazil, a country of continental dimensions, inserted in a highly competitive international system, cannot only react to international circumstances, but should also have a Grand Strategy. In this sense, the set of investigations is dedicated to the analysis of the geopolitical foundations of development projects and the international insertion of Brazil, using the classic authors and the study of the geostrategies of powers, as well as the understanding of institutional tools for strategic planning. Going beyond the coordination mechanisms, an axis of analysis focuses on the investigation of the Grand Strategies of the countries of the Geopolitical South in a comparative perspective. Finally, based on theoretical references and aggregated practical experiences, a theoretical framework is intended to identify the current challenges faced by the Land Force and the Defence of Brazil.
