Integrated Security in the Pan-Amazon and South American Borders: Perspectives for building an integrated security model focused on interagency and international cooperation
Abstract
Brazil has approximately 16,800 kilometers of land borders with 10 neighboring countries, positioning the country as having the third largest border extension in the world. Thus, Brazil occupies a strategic position in South America. The Brazilian border stretch covers 2,357,850 km2, representing approximately 27% of the national territory. Despite the strategic relevance of borders for national development, they remain neglected by decision makers and society. This highlights a gap in understanding and managing its complexities and potential. The current proposal seeks to address this gap, arguing for the need for an integrated approach that considers not only national security in a traditional way, but also human security. In this sense, the present project aims to analyze the challenges for the Integrated Defense and Security of the Pan-Amazon and the South American borders, starting from a perspective that encompasses human security and evaluates aspects such as migration, human rights, cross-border crimes and environmental issues aiming at the construction of public policies .
